Business Advice and Trade Links

The Unit is coordinated by two Program Coordinators

NNFU is through its Business Advice and Trade Links department implementing programs to increase the food production for household security and to enhance household income through marketing of farming products.

An increase in food production and household income can be achieved through an increase in production, a better prize for the products and by a improving the quality of the product. To achieve this, producers need to be well informed about the market and their products, the Business Advice and Trade Links unit informs and educates producers through workshops and trainings. These workshops and trainings focus on different key elements, such as: understanding of the producer on how the market is defined and how it operates. Further it is important that farmers have a production orientated mind, for livestock producers, they should be aware of quality of livestock and the best time to sell their livestock. The farmers need to manage their herds efficiently to get the best price out of their product. For Mahangu producers it is important to organize themselves, to market their Mahangu collectively to get the best prize for the Mahangu.

Some of the programs the unit has been focusing on in the last few years are:
• Livestock Marketing Advisors Training program
• Support to agricultural shows
• Auction Kraal Program
• Grain marketing (Mahangu and Maize)
